Directors to whom conservatives should pay attention:
Mike Judge made his name making Beavis & Butthead, which is somewhat difficult to explain. His longest-running show, though, is King of the hill, about a guy from Texas trying to live the American life. Comic vulgarity is what he does best & he seems to want to save America, minus the moralism. The stories you see below are his only feature films, plus his new sitcom (not animated). Two are about losers, two are about winners. All have happy ends, except perhaps Office space, where rebellion seems to earn punishment.
The characters are either sophisticated or vulgar & corrupt or not; it is not always easy to judge which is which, because you have to judge them in relation to one another & their circumstances, but the categories are obvious. Judge does justice to the comedic insight into the goodness of the vulgar without implying that the sophisticated are corrupt.
